Los Angeles: Vintage Scene

Los Angeles was so exciting.  I was in LA two years ago but left feeling unimpressed.  This time though, my opinion did a 180.  I don't know how I missed the intricacies and creativity behind the stores on Melrose two years ago, but on this trip, I saw it.  Thanks to Melrose, I found my new favorite boots, the Boutique9 grey lace-ups.  On a day-trip to Santa Barbara, I was reassured that if I ever have to move to California, I would be more than thrilled to live in Santa Barbara. It is probably one of my top-ten favorite places to visit.  The beach, the pier, the restaurants, the shopping, the architecture, it all works together so well and makes me so happy.  Driving through the hills of LA, we "looked at houses," but I think we both know that we were keeping our eyes peeled for celebrities.  We did see Paul Johansson while eating gelato but I am not a One Tree Hill fan so it didn't meant as much.  Eating at the restaurants Koi, The Ivy, Hob Nob, The Nook, and any ice cream place we could find, really added to the LA experience because after all, we love love love food. I'll go on the record for saying, I really like LA.

AustinCityLimits

Austin City Limits brought together music, trendsetters, and hipsters to enjoy three days of pure bliss.  It may have been hot but that did not stop the thousands of people to flood the grounds of Zilker Park to hear the sounds of bands from all over the world.  My personal favorites were Local Natives, Vampire Weekend, and LCD Soundsystem.  Matt and Kim delivered a high-intensity show full of excitement and audience interaction while Yeasayer led me to walk away from there show, full of disappointment.  The weekend was jam packed with dancing, people watching, and happiness and I could not have imagined it any other way.

MatthewSantos&TrevorHall

Soothing and original, Matthew Santos and Trevor Hall took everyone's breath away.  Matthew Santos, compared to by Joe as Dave Matthews (minus the band), sang heart-felt lyrics that were original and hard not to love.  Trevor Hall, with a voice that I can't even explain without thinking of the words original, jamaican, breezy and rhythmic, was truly a wow factor.  Standing on stage with a laid-back attitude, a head full of dreads, his bare feet, and sense of calmness surrounding him, you could see and feel his passion and love for the music that he was singing.  His music makes me feel at ease while making me want to get up and dance at the same time.  It's pure bliss.  I highly recommend the songs "Unity," "Lime Tree," and "31 Flavors" by Trevor Hall and "Break Free" and "Love Sick Fool" by Matthew Santos.
