I miss italy more than anything right now.
but what i think i miss most is being with these people.
i would give anything to catch the next plane over there.

home. In America. has included a wonderful Sunday with family, my mom's homemade food, and spending time with my little (but not so little anymore) Lola. And this week has been jam packed with catching up with friends and making a trip to Birmingham. I have missed this country but have been feeling really homesick for those five weeks I spent in Europe. Life in America isn't too shabby though, especially if it means homemade banana pudding.
Florence is like a baby Rome. Less of a city, more of a town. A place where everything is compact, not spread out. It still remains to be full of art and amazing shopping, fun piazzas, great food, and those great little alleyways that always seem to lead to something unexpected. While we were there, I got to revisit the statue of David, go inside the Duomo that sits in the center of the city, enjoy music and time with friends on the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, watch a game of Calcio Fiorentino in Piazza Croce, explore the leather markets, go to our first Discoteca, and eat, by far, our best meal in Italy at San Desiderio in Siena.
It's safe to say that over the last 5 weeks in Italy, food has played a vital role in my life. I was never much of a pasta-fanatic until this trip and unfortunately have a feeling that when I get back to America, I will revert back to that old habit. I am pasta-ed out. So. many. carbs. & not enough exercise really just never lead to anything good. We have tried to balance it out with salads but in reality, I have given up on the idea of attempting to eat well in Italy, and fully embraced the idea of enjoying and taking advantage of the wonderful food here while I still can. These are just a few pictures of some wonderful meals, snacks, and food related souvenirs that I have come to love and enjoy so much.
The Ponte Vecchio might be known for it's quaint jewelry shops and galleries, but for us, it far surpassed good shopping. We sat along the edge of the bridge listening to three Italian men serenade the crowd with songs like somewhere over the rainbow while the sun set behind us. It was a perfect night.
