We spent the last week cruising around. Mexico, Honduras, Belize, and Costa Maya were among our stops. The whole trip could not have been more perfect. It gave us a chance to escape the life of school and slip in to a life of relaxation and constant laughter... not to mention, the multiple visits we made to the buffet on a daily basis, the incredible people we met, the cultures we experienced, and the memories that we can keep with us forever.
Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras was unlike anything I have ever experienced before. I saw more skin then I wanted to, have a grasp on what a giant stampede of people must feel like, and have a new appreciation for living in Birmingham. Not to say that I didn't enjoy every second of Mardi Gras, I just saw and experienced things that I never expected. No need to go into detail though- for those who have been to or heard of Mardi Gras experiences, I will just let your mind wander. Our day started off with an early morning parade: Turks, in which gothically-dressed marching bands, star wars characters, men with women's undergarments on their heads, and the infamous Rob and Big graced the road before our eyes. From then on, it was a day of Bourbon Street craziness and escaping the forbidden rains at a friend's house, with a lottery ticket extravaganza, meeting new friends, experiencing Tropical Isle, dancing in the rain, and eating king cake falling somewhere in the mix of things.
Home in Birmingham
This is Home. For now at least.
I like it.
The Canoe Trip
Some of my best friends and I took a canoeing trip down the Cahaba on Saturday. It was a beautiful two hour ride that was peaceful (until the rapids that we experienced going backwards) but exhilarating, and it was nice to do something out of the norm. It was a slightly sketchy experience that involved riding in the bed of a truck with a random man driving, a four mile ride to an unknown location in the woods, a herd of dogs, a cement hut that read "office," an old rusty slide, a catfish attached to a canoe, and two old men with heavy southern accents and leather skin. But what's life without a little spontaneity?
Spring in Birmingham
Spring is just around the corner and with the rising temperatures, I could not be more ready for everything that the season entails. I'll be 21 (which will hopefully be more uplifting than my 20th, which I dreaded), get to celebrate Easter, my favorite Holiday, enjoy spring break on a cruise, go back to Rome, finally get a tan, pick flowers, eat ice cream, go hiking, and so many more Springy adventures.
