New years eve in Texas, fireworks, a game of cards, snow day, and the Dallas traffic. i really do love 2011.
Twig Forts and Trees
Birmingham went from a city to what seemed like a ghost town simulation thanks to an inch of snow on the ground (actually more like an inch of ice). And even though the skies were grey and few people even stepped outside their front doors, it was fun to play in. We enjoyed climbing trees and especially enjoyed the giant hill that reminded me of a set from 'where the wild things are' with twig like bushes that made great forts. This adventure was later accompanied with homemade hot chocolate and a long night of lounging and hopes that classes would be cancelled again.
Ohio
Ohio will always hold a special place in my heart and our recent trip up there was one of my favorites for so many reasons.
The lights and beautiful Christmas trees at Easton, the SNOW, eating Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip ice cream, spending invaluable time with family and friends, and baking in our new house are just a few reasons that a short three day trip became one of my favorites.
Ohio's Jeni's
This summer when we were in Ohio, my brother told us that we absolutely had to try Jeni's ice cream in downtown Dublin for the out-of-this-world flavors. From Olive Oil with Sea Salted Pepitas to Salty Caramel or Riesling Poached Pear, the flavors are sophisticated and outrageous all at the same time. But however seemingly awkward or weird they may sound, the combinations are delectable. So today when we were in the grocery store and stumbled across pints of the ice cream for sale, we had to make some purchases. We got pistachio and honey, goat cheese with cognac fig, and sweet potato with toasted marshmellow. Our favorite: sweet potato with toasted marshmellow. Visit Jeni's website here... she delivers all over the United States.
Auburn Surprises
The look on someone's face when they are suprised is absolutely priceless. And being that Sarah and I are basically the same person and we love surprises, I had to suprise her for her birthday. Leading up to her 21st, I told her that because of the 5K I was running on Saturday, there was no way that I could drive down to Auburn on Friday for her big day. So when I pulled up outside Toomer's and she was standing on the sidewalk, she could not have been more ecstatic. We have been best friends for the last few years but only get to see each other a few times a year because of distance, so any chance we have to see each other, we never let it pass us by. I feel so honored to call her my best friend because she is truly one of the most talented, genuine, beautiful, and fun people I have ever known.
